For the Love of God, il teschio tempestato di diamanti opera dell’artista inglese Damien Hirst diventato leggendario da quando venne esposto per la prima volta nel 2007, verrà esposto a Palazzo Vecchio, a Firenze, dal 26 novembre 2010 al 1 maggio 2011.
Promosso dal Comune di Firenze, Assessorato alla Cultura e alla Contemporaneità e dai Musei Civici Fiorentini, l’evento è stato ideato da Memoria srl, curato da Francesco Bonami e prodotto e organizzato da Arthemisia Group.
For the Love of God è un calco di platino di un teschio umano in scala reale tempestato di 8.601 diamanti al massimo grado di purezza o con pochissime imperfezioni, per un totale di 1.106,18 carati. Sulla fronte è incastonato un grande diamante rosa a forma di goccia anche noto come “la stella del teschio”. I denti sono stati ricavati da un cranio vero del Settecento acquistato da Hirst a Londra.
The diamond encrusted skull, For the Love of God, by British artist Damien Hirst, which gained iconic status following its first exhibition in 2007, will be presented at Palazzo Vecchio in Florence from 26 November 2010 to 1 May 2011.
Promoted by the Comune di Firenze, Assessorato alla Cultura e alla Contemporaneità and the Musei Civici Fiorentini, the event was conceived by Memoria srl, is curated by Francesco Bonami and is being produced and organised by Arthemisia Group.
For the Love of God is a life-size cast of a human skull in platinum, entirely covered by 8,601 VVS to flawless pavé-set diamonds, weighing a total of 1,106.18 carats. Set into the forehead is a large pear-shaped pink diamond, known as the Skull Star Diamond. The teeth are those of the original skull, which was purchased by Hirst in London, and dates back to the eighteenth-century.
